"Dream Base" Tricity Forest Garden of Free Children, Gdynia
28 September 2020
While working on painting the tipi, one evening as I was getting ready to go home, it started to rain. I took shelter in the yurt and listened to the sounds of the rain and the rustling of the forest. I looked at the dark green leaves of the trees and the navy blue sky. It was gloomy, cold, and beautiful.
On the train ride home, I read a chapter about YUGEN from the book "Shinrin Yoku. The Japanese Art of Drawing Strength from Nature," which discusses "the mysterious moments when observing the universe, our feelings reach immense depths in our innermost selves." This is exactly what I felt in the yurt during the rain. The thought of the feeling described in the book led me to the tipi on another gloomy day. I painted in the rain to feel the power of nature, tranquility, and energy.
I wanted to share with you where I draw my aesthetic for forest wall painting. I feel that if you, like me, experience the beauty of gloomy, rainy weather, you will understand my sensitivity.
With the painting on the tipi, I tried to establish a dialogue with the wildness and naturalness of the forest surrounding me there.
